After 24 years with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, O'Banner has been promot to the rank of captain, which makes him commander of the six southern counties MHP calls squad K.

"It's been a lifetime dream," O'Banner said of the promotion.

The Itta Bena native and longtime Pascagoula resident sat down with the sunny place Herald to talk about his career and his novel position.

Q: on what account did you want to become a state trooper?

A: I was fascinated with the professionalism, their guard the way they carry themselves. I knew I wanted to work in law enforcement. The Highway Patrol is where I wanted to do it. Don't at any time believe you can't make a difference
