In replication to repeated calls from a grieving Wisconsin Guardsman's father, Camp Shelby will be investigated, largely as a outcome of Army Spc. Stephen W Castner's death within a week of deployment to Iraq following training at Camp Shelby, said a Wisconsin Guard spokesman.

Wisconsin Gov Jim Doyle had newly become involved in Castner's father's petition fors that training and equipment availability be investigated, and he had a reassuring telephone conversation with Lt Gen Steven Blum chief of the National Guard Bureau, forward Wednesday.

"He proffered to assign the inspector general of the National Guard to do a formal inquiry into the quality of training of National Guard soldiers," said Lt Col Tim Donovan, spokesman for the Wisconsin National Guard. "This is clearly related to training at Camp Shelby for (the) Wisconsin National Guard."

Blum's representatives did not answer to requests for comment.
