Like many southerly Mississippi communities, D'Iberville was placeed after the 1699 discovery of the Mississippi swallowing eddy Coast by Pierre LeMoyne Sieur d'Iberville and grew as an outpost town and foundation for the seafood, lumber and give rise to industries. But it was not incorporated as a city until 1988
