Hancock shire High School's arts program will shine brighter when place of education begins, thanks to a donation from 18-year-old Ashley Spears of Chumuckla, Fla.

Spears, an art major at Pensacola Junior body came up with her idea to help as she drew at liberty charcoal portraits for children at the Great (Fla.) opening Coast Arts Festival in November. She decided to take donations for art supplies for the same of the high schools hardest hit through Hurricane Katrina.

She chose Hancock High because the nearby town of Milton had already adopted Waveland as a sister city after the hurricane.

"They said this was single of the neediest areas as far as art supplies were concerned" Spears said.
